Kampala — Kawempe Division councillors have protested the appointment of Mr Godfrey Kiseka as their new principal assistant town clerk.
About 12 councillors on Friday protested Mr Kiseka's appointment citing his alleged bad track record during his tenure at Makindye and Central divisions.
The Kawempe Division chairman, Hajj Takuba Kibirige, said councillors were planning to block the handover of office to Mr Kiseka on Wednesday.
He said councillors allege that Mr Kiseka caused a huge financial loss to Makindye and Central divisions.
"I humbly request them to remain calm until the division council makes an official decision in response to their petition," Mr Kibirige said over the weekend.
The developments come days after the Kampala Town Clerk, Ms Ruth Kijjambu, suspended Kawempe Town clerk Nooh Bukenya over alleged abuse of office and mismanagement of public funds amounting to Shs700 million.

When contacted, Mr Kiseka declined to comment on the issue. He said: "You should contact the appointing authority or city council spokesperson."
Mr Kiseka was last year suspended for allegedly taking part in sanctioning payments worth Shs71 million to a ghost firm, Psalms 24:1 Investment for work on Kinkunku drain in Makindye Division which does not exist.
