1 November 2009

Abuja — Ecobank Nigeria Plc said the registration of prospective participants for the Season 2 of the Entrepreneur, Nigeria's acclaimed business reality television show has commenced in all branches of Ecobank nationwide.

The bank in a statement said the Entrepreneur Season 2 provides micro-entrepreneurs with brilliant ideas the opportunity to access up to N15 million free micro-funding from the bank.

The main objective of The Entrepreneur is to empower small business owners, promote entrepreneurship through investments in innovative social enterprises, educate people on the numerous strategies of pitching business ideas, and contribute to poverty alleviation in the society.

The TV series, which made its debut last year, injected over N12 million into the businesses of the 23 micro-entrepreneur winners.

The Entrepreneur, co-sponsored by the world's favourite malt drink, Vitamalt has been endorsed by notable government and private sector organizations, which include the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, Growing Businesses Foundation (NGO), and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) as key partners.

In Season 2, The Entrepreneur TV series seeks to focus on encouraging Nigerians to engage in the real sector of the economy. Bright ideas in the areas of commerce and industry, agriculture, and health are sought, as well as innovative approaches to issues of food security and value-added farming.

Endorsing The Entrepreneur TV Series, Dr Sayyad Abba Ruma, Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources said it's a forward looking initiative that will help promote entrepreneurship in agriculture, thereby creating jobs and wealth for Nigeria.

Goke Dokun, the Executive Director of IMPC, producers of the reality TV assured that this season promises to be bigger, better and more rewarding to Nigeria's micro-entrepreneurs as the stakes have increased.

He said: "This edition of The Entrepreneur, like last year, will give a minimum of 60 Nigerian micro-entrepreneurs the opportunity to transform their ideas into reality by providing them the platform to access the required funds for their businesses, without interference on how they run the business."
