Kampala — BUGANDA information minister Medard Lubega was Thursday ordered to continue reporting to Buganda Road Court, despite a request by his lawyer to have the trial over sedition charges halted.

Lubega's lawyer, Apollo Makubuya, had asked the court to suspend the proceedings, saying sedition law is being challenged in the Constitutional Court.

Lubega is accused of making seditious statements intended to bring hatred, contempt, and disaffection to the Government.

Makubuya said since the Constitutional Court is yet to pronounce itself on sedition law, court should halt the trial until the matter is resolved.

Magistrate Godfrey Sayekwo declined the request, instead giving the case a long adjournment till April 29, next year.

Prosecution, led by Festo Nsenga, alleges that Lubega said on the CBS radio: " The Government installed someone claiming to be the leader of Banyala. who is not from the royal family. This is the man the Government wants the Kabaka to first ask permission from, in order to visit Kayunga, which cannot be accepted."
