Abuja — Canadian government has called for enhanced cooperation, concerted dialogue and innovative solutions amid growing complexity of peacekeeping operations and their supporting activities.
It also said conflict situations, characterised by multi-dimensional challenges and asymmetric threats, is throwing up new challenges daily, hence the need for enhanced cooperation.
Canadian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Denis Kingsley, made the call at the public presentation of the 14th Annual Conference of International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) Report, hosted by the National Defence College.
The report, in English and French languages is to deepen the understanding of the changing nature of peace operations for all institutions, organisations and individuals involved in peace support operations in Africa and all over the world.
He expressed happiness with the theme of the conference, "the changing nature of Peace Operations - Implications for Education and Training," describing it as both insightful and challenging, which gave rise to in-depth analysis and fruitful exchanges that will go on for years.
He said the IAPTC, established 14 years ago, has a significant role to play not only in promoting a better understanding of peacekeeping, but also in improving existing mechanisms and facilitating the exchange of information, ideas and best practices.
