Kampala — THE increased number of participants in the MTN Kampala International marathon will cost the organisers sh100m more. Sh800m had earlier been earmarked for the annual event.
The marathon is due November 22. But action will begin with a 10km wheelchair subsidiary event on November 15. MTN brand and promotions manager Aggrey Kagonyera, said the extra cost comes after an 4,000 people registered to take part in the marathon.
The organisers were expecting 15,000 runners but after the registration deadline on Monday, the figure shot up. Kagonyera explained that the extra cost will cater for the running vest, water bottles and hiring chips," Kagonyera said.
The timing chips are expected from South Africa. At the same time, MTN bought the electronic timer from Norway.
