Maputo — An increasing number of Mozambican districts and cities have now declared full results from Wednesday's general election, confirming the overwhelming victory of the ruling Frelimo Party and its presidential candidate, the incumbent head of state, Armando Guebuza.

Thus the result from all polling stations in the central city of Quelimane, capital of the central province of Zambezia, as announced over Radio Mozambique, shows Guebuza with over 60 per cent of the votes.

Presidential election

Daviz Simango (MDM): 7,013 Armando Guebuza (Frelimo): 28,253 Afonso Dhlakama (Renamo): 10,793

Parliamentary election

Frelimo: 29,398 Renamo: 14,469

In Manica district, one of the few parts of Manica province that has been traditionally a Frelimo area, Guebuza scored a huge victory, as the following figures show:

Presidential election

Daviz Simango (MDM): 2,950 Armando Guebuza (Frelimo): 35,288 Afonso Dhlakama (Renamo): 1,048

Parliamentary election

Frelimo: 33,134 Renamo: 1,112

Also in Manica province, Frelimo won Gondola district for the first time ever. Here the results were:

Daviz Simango (MDM): 3,292 Armando Guebuza (Frelimo): 25,941 Afonso Dhlakama (Renamo): 11,725

Parliamentary election

Frelimo: 25,167 Renamo: 12,842

In the southern city of Inhambane, a Frelimo stronghold, Guebuza won his expected victory, and the MDM beat Renamo into third place.

Parliamentary election

Likewise in Gaza province, while there was never any doubt that there would be a huge Frelimo triumph here, in the presidential election Simango has beaten Dhlakama into third place. The MDM was not on the ballot paper for the Gaza parliamentary election. The following were the results in the Gaza capital, Xai-Xai city:

In the outlying rural area of Xai-Xai district, the result was even worse for Renamo.
