High Court has given the government 15 days to file its defence in a case where a farmer from Nakaseke district accuses the army of carrying out a training exercise on his farm without his consent causing him losses.
Mr William Kisenyi who has sued the government for shs1 billion in compensation says that UPDF soldiers conducted training on his farmland at Katugo, pumugwe village in October last year.
Kisenyi argues that the UPDF invaded his land with thousands of soldiers carrying light and heavy machine guns, tankers and other military equipment, which they used on his farm while conducting the training.
He adds that the heavy gun fire went on for 10 consecutive days, scaring off his animals which scampered off the farm and have never been recovered.
Mr Kisenyi said he carries out mixed farming involving rearing exotic, local and cross breeds of sheep, goats and cattle on the farm.
The High court deputy civil registrar Isaac Muwata has given government 15 days to file its defense in the matter.
