A continued support from corporate firms and institutions would steer golf's developments in the country, it was said in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
Foti Gwebe, who is the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) Competition Secretary said during the prizegiving ceremony of the CBA Safari Open that the massive support would help in exposing young players.
"We have upcoming young players who entirely need support for their presence felt in the local and international assignments, through
sponsorships they would be managed to realize their dreams", he said.
The CBA Safari Open was jointly sponsored by the Commercial Bank of Africa and Mwananchi Communications, publishers of the Citizen, Sunday Citizen, Mwananchi, Mwananchi Jumapili and Mwanaspoti.
Speaking during the prize giving event, CBA's Chief Executive Officer, Nehemiah Mchechu said that they have decided to turn their focus on golf believing that it has something special to offer for the country.
"We have seen other institutions massively supporting soccer, but for our side, we thank that there are other sporting events like golf which have to a large extent been forgotten", said Mchechu.
His firm supported similar event last year and promised for more continued support.
Mwananchi Communications, which is a subsidiary of the Nation Media Group has regularly been supporting among other sporting events, golf in order to promote the fast growing sport in the country.
The event, which saw winners being awarded token prizes including Microwev Ovens saw Salim Mwanyenza carding 149 gross strokes to win the professionals' category.
Rajabu Idd won the runners-up spot after returning 154 strokes beating third placed Geofrey Leverian.
In the amateur category, Salim Sharrif was crowned the CBA Champions after outsmarting his challengers in the 18-hole event.
Jimmy Mollel scooped the Division A title with 140 strokes as Akil Yusufali scored three over par 145 to emerge the event's Division B winner.
