Nigeria: College Makes Case for Pensioners

Owerri — The Governing Council of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE), Owerri, has appealed to Imo State Government to settle outstanding entitlements of retired staff of the institution before ejecting them from their official quarters.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor James Alachi, made the appeal when Council members and the schools management staff paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. kwuonu, at the Government House, Owerri.

"We would like to observe that from our first-hand contact with the human and infrastructural facilities of the College, we are strongly convinced that the College deserves to be upgraded to an autonomous University of Education in its own right".

He was of the view that the recent upgrading of some state owned Colleges of Education, with less facilities and manpower compared to AIFCE, to Universities of Education justifies the belated need for the Federal Government to upgrade Alvan.
