Accra — The Ashanti Regional Director of Education, Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah, has asked winners of the National Best Teacher awards to serve as role models for other teachers to raise the standards of teaching in the country.
Expressing satisfaction at the region's performance in the national awards and the national cultural and sports competitions, he said the Ghana Education Service expected the award winners to help raise the image of the teaching profession. "These achievements should serve as inspiration to you and other personnel in the service," he added.
Mr. Onyinah made these remarks during an interaction with nine of this year's award winners from the region in Kumasi. They are Mr. Charles Darko Abrokwah of Kumasi Technical Institute, Mr. Opuni Nketiah of Konongo Odumase Senior High School (SHS) and Mr. Samuel Avornyo of Mabang SHS. The others are Mr. Kofi Kusi-Mensah of Piase Junoir High School (JHS), Mrs. Margaret Twum of Konongo Odumase SHS and Mr. Yaw Adu-Gyamfi Sarpong of Toase SHS.
The rest are Oti Boakye of Subiriso Basic School, S N Boateng of Saint Louis College of Education and Mr. Robert Asare-Acheampong of Nnuaso Number Three Basic School.
He told the winners that the Regional Education Directorate would provide the platform for the award winners to share their experiences with their colleagues to improve teaching and learning in the region.
Mr Kusi-Mensah, one of the winners, on behalf of the others expressed their gratitude for the support of the directorate and pledged that they would work harder to improve upon their performance.
