Kigali — RWANDA'S top cyclists Abraham Ruhumuriza and Nathan Byukusenge have promised a good display at the African continental road cycling championship that starts tomorrow in Windhoek-Namibia.
The duo told Times Sport before leaving for Namibia yesterday that they are ready to take on the best in Africa as they plot to finish inside the money bracket.
"We have been training hard for the last two weeks, and are in good shape. We expect stiff competition but we are up for it," Ruhumuriza, a four-time Tour of Rwanda champion said.
Besides the pair, Rwanda's six-man team also includes Tour of Rwanda defending champion Adrien Niyonshuti, Gasore Hategeka, Nicodem Habiyambere and Uwase Nyandwi.
The five day competition is expected to attract cyclists from 17 teams; South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Libya, Ivory Coast, Malawi, Mauritius, Gabon, Lesotho, Ethiopia, San Tome & Principe, Seychelles , Uganda, Eriteria and Rwanda. Continental champion status will be awarded in three categories, namely the team time trial (Wednesday), individual time trial (Friday) and the road race (Sunday).
