Kampala — CHARLES Ssali, an U-12 footballer, will represent Uganda at the launch of the 'United Against Malaria' campaign due in Ethiopia November 5-8.
The project is a partnership of football stars, charities, governments, corporations and individuals who have joined forces ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in the fight against malaria. They aim to reach the goal of universal access to mosquito nets and medications in Africa.
Kenneth Mulondo of Voices Uganda said the project is to control the scourge in Uganda.
"Uganda suffers from high levels of malaria, with children and pregnant women being the most affected," he said. "Malaria causes almost half of the deaths in children below five years and a third of deaths during pregnancy."
He said the campaign is to raise global awareness and renew worldwide commitment to end malaria.
Ssali, the Friends of Football team captain, will also meet and present the project agenda to the Ethiopian Prime Minister.
