Kampala — GEOMATIC Engineering Solutions, a private engineering company, has partnered with Post Bank Uganda to assist residents of Busoga to acquire freehold titles for their land.
The company managing director, Leonard Nyende, said they signed a memorandum of understanding with the bank to enable the residents access loans for processing the titles.
"We assist those willing to get money from the bank at a 10% interest rate to facilitate the land survey process," he told the applicants for the land titles at Busede sub-county on Thursday.
During the meeting, also attended by Jinja district land officer Aisha Nahabwa and members of the district land board, at least 200 people satisfied requirements for acquiring land titles.
The district land board chairman, Ngoma Ngime, urged residents to embrace the programme, saying apart from offering security for their land, titles would help reduce land conflicts and enable them access loans for development purposes.
"Bushenyi is one of the most developed districts in the country. This is so because what we are doing now is what they did in the 1960s," Ngime said.
Nyende said the company had surveyed land for more than 500 residents in Jinja, adding that they also operate in Iganga and Mayuge districts.
