Nigeria: Delta to Use Climate Change to Tackle Amnesty

Abuja — Governor of Delta State Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has thanked the Federal Government on the declaration of amnesty, which he said has brought relative peace to the State and the Niger Delta region.

He made this remark when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey on Friday at his Mabushi office in Abuja.

He said that currently, the State Government is employing the issue of climate change to address post amnesty challenges while calling on all companies operating in the state to adapt new technologies as is the practice all over the world.

Governor Uduaghan stated that the state is committed to regenerate the land, clean up the water so that its citizens can go back to their traditional occupation. He also asked for the support and cooperation of the Ministry in view of the state's recent admission into a team of Territorial Area Climate Change of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Earlier in his remark, the Minister of Environment, Mr. John Odey commended Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for according the issue of environment a priority and mainstreaming same into the state's development plan.

He assured him and other Governors of the Ministry's support to work together to find solution to the challenges of climate change so as to make life more meaningful for all Nigerians.

The Minister solicited for the cooperation of the State Governor in the establishment of an Integrated Waste Management Facility in the state.
