Harare — AXCIL Jefferies has come unstuck in his quest to land the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific title after failing to make it into the top three in Round 14 of the series in Okayama, Japan, at the weekend.
According to reports from Okayama, the 15-year-old Zimbabwean Formula BMW Pacific Junior driver finished second in the Rookie Cup and third in the overall Drivers Classification.
Rio Haryanto (16), who drives for Questnet Team Qi-Meritus, was on Sunday crowned the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific champion after the young Indonesian finished second in Round 14 at the Okayama International Circuit in support of the FIA World Touring Car Championship. Guest driver Facu Regalia (17) of Spain, who competes under Eurointernational, took a second consecutive lights-to-flag victory, finishing 21,681 seconds ahead of Haryanto and James Kovacic (16) of Australia in a wet 12-lap race. The 2009 Formula BMW Pacific team championship and Rookie Cup were also decided in Okayama, with Questnet Team Qi-Meritus taking the team honours and Gary Thompson (17) of Ireland winning the Rookie Cup.
With guest drivers not eligible to score points, Haryanto clinched the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific Drivers Classification by earning maximum points in each of the last nine races -- a winning streak that began in late May at the Sepang International Circuit.
