Nigeria: Borno to Commence Airlift of 3,000 Pilgrims

Maiduguri — Arrangement has been concluded for the airlift of about 3,000 intending pilgrims from Borno to Saudi Arabia for this year's Hajj today.

The state Amirul Hajj, Ambassador Baba Jidda said this when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Ali Sheriff at the Government House Maiduguri.

Jidda told the governor that the maiden flight from Borno state would be hitch-free .

He said the vaccination of all intending pilgrims against cholera, swine flu and other communicable disease have been completed while accommodation has been secured in Saudi Arabia for the state's intending pilgrims.

Jidda said all necessary arrangements has been completed for the success of the Hajj both at home and in the Holy land , and expressed appreciation to Sheriff for finding them worthy to serve in the committee and promised to discharged their duties well.

Responding, Sheriff said most members who served in the committee during last year's Hajj operations were retained due to outstanding performance, with Borno state being ajudged as one of the best in the federation, in terms of successful Hajj operations, and urged them to keep the flag flying.

Sheriff assured the committee of government support and promised to personally visit the Borno state camp in Saudi Arabia to ensure safety and welfare of the state's pilgrims. He called on the intending pilgrims to be good ambassadors of Borno State and the country while in the Holy land .

He also commended the Borno state command of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for its untiring efforts in preparing the traveling documents of intending pilgrims within the stipulated timeframe.
