Nigeria: Seadogs Want Al-Basir Handed Over to ICJ

Calabar — National Association of Seadogs (NAS) aka Pirates Confraternity, Cross River State chapter has called on the African Union (AU) to hand-over Al-Bashir of Sudan to the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in The Hague, Switzerland, for trial over his war-crime records and murderous disposition to the helpless people of Darfur.

NAS said the call became necessary as Al-Bashir has rebuffed the apex court's invitation, even several months after it declared him wanted.

The President of NAS International, Calabar chapter, Mr. Emmanuel Dada, in a press briefing, in Calabar, the state capital, noted that the association had since 1952 been involved in the struggle for the enthronement of a just and egalitarian society where no one would be a victim of oppression on account of his race, belief, language, colour and affiliation, the reason he said the association got affiliated with the United Nations (UN) and incorporated to do business in all parts of the world.

"NAS has over the years been actively involved with the Save Darfur Campaigns such as Aegis in the US and the Darfuris in the Diaspora to further strengthen their works, partner with African Journalists to keep Darfur in the news and lobby African legislators to get them involved in finding lasting solution to the Darfur crises.

"We have held peaceful demonstrations in Nigeria and outside to lend our voices to the International condemnation of the outrageous vices of Al-Bashir and the surreptitious but pernicious roles of some permanent members of the UN Security Council like Russia and China" Dada said.

He noted that Darfur in Western Sudan has a population of approximately seven million and that 50 per cent of that population are black Africans while the rest are Arabs lamenting that the region has been afflicted by severe under-development for years now occasioned by racial discrimination and victimization of the people.

"In recent times, the Arab population has changed the official philosophy of Sudan to change the demography of Darfur and empty it of African tribes. It is trite to comment that documents like this are over-abundant and have long confirmed the role of Sudanese government under Al-Bashir in what amounts to no less than a methodical progarmme of extermination of African peoples of Darfur.

"Recent US estimates showed that over two million people have died over the years from violence, illness and malnutrition and about four million displaced, half of which are forcibly sent to refugee camps stressing that "NAS cannot and will not support a government that dines and wines with war criminals".

op the genocide against the helpless people of Darfur.
