Nigeria: PPPRA Workers Protest in Abuja

Abuja — Workers of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) yesterday in Abuja began a protest strike over issues that are presumably connected to welfare.

The workers under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) had by 8:00am locked the gate to the premises of the agency's headquarters allowing staff entry only while all kinds of visitors were barred from the premises.

Attempts by our reporter to get any of the union officials to speak on what the grouse proved abortive as the workers shouted "we don't need the press, we won't, talk to the press now."

However, an insider who pleaded anonymity said the unionists came very early to the office to disconnect the two buildings in the premises from power supply and ordered that no work should be carried out by any of its members.

The workers who decided to organise their protest in the small car park in the premises opened their cars to play gospel music to which they danced and sang choruses.

As at the time our reporter was leaving by 12:30pm, some of the union members were seen bringing drums and other musical instruments with generator to aid more music supply in the environment.

Efforts by Daily Champion to get any of the member of management to talk on the matter met brick walls as none of them was on hand to speak.
