Lagos — Activity on the Nigerian Stock Exchange resumed on a negative note when the market opened for transactions yesterday, with primary performance indicators recording a dip of 0.6 per cent each.
The market capitalisation of all listed equities which opened at N5.14 trillion, lost N32 billion to close at N5.11 trillion fuelled by losses in share prices of 38 companies.
Also, the all share index which commenced trading at 21,804.69 basis points, nose-dived by 139.23 basis points to close at 21,665.46 points.
Property giant, UAC-Properties Company and G.Cappa, led on the losers' table with 99k and 80k decrease to close at N18.92k and N15.22k per share respectively. ETI trailed behind with 50k loss to close at N14 per share. IBTC followed, dropping 38k to close at N7.22k per share, Union Bank of Nigeria went down by 36k to close at N6.92k, while NAHCO which was the last of the top five losers shed 34k to close at N6.90k per share.
On the other hand, Flourmill led the pack of other gainers with N1.79k to close at N37.61k per share. Unilever Plc., followed with 75k increase to close at N15.82k per share. PZ Plc., gained 45k to close at N22.50k, NASCON chalked 15k to close at N3.80k, while Fidelity bank that was the last on the top five gainers' chart added 09k to close at N2.34k per share.
The banking sub-sector dominated activity on the sectoral chart, trading 175.7 million shares valued at N1.1 billion, exchanged by investors in 3,225 deals. The conglomerate sub-sector followed on the sectoral chart with traded volume of 43.4 million shares valued at N472.2 million, done in 226 deals, while the insurance sub-sector placed third with 17.4 million shares worth N14.2 million done in 487 deals.
UBA traded 29.4 million shares valued at N334.6 million exchanged in 282 deals, Transcop posted 31.2 million units of shares worth N15.6 million, in 51 deals, while Aiico Insurance netted 7.8 million shares valued at N6.9 million in 276 deals to emerge the most active in their respective sub-sectors.
On the whole, investors bought 271.23 million shares worth N1.93 billion exchanged in 5,826 deals.
