Kaduna — An Egyptian medical doctor who is said to be on the services of Kaduna State government has reportedly died after an illness at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Shika, Zaria.
According to LEADERSHIP sources at Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna, place of assignment of the deceased medical personnel, his name was given as Dr.Ahmed A.Sabur and was among the ten Egyptian medical doctors recently employed by the Kaduna State government.
The sources added that he was first admitted at the hospital for two days before he was finally taken to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital where he later died.
The sources at the hospital, who pleaded for anonymity, told this Correspondent that he is survived by one wife and children along with an aged mother, and was well liked by the hospital staff for his humane approa ch to duty.
When contacted for verification, Professor A.H.Rafindadi, the Chief Medical Director of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, said, "I cannot confirm to you now because I have been away and just returned".
LEADERSHIP could not reach the Commissioner of Health, Dr.Peter Everton Yari, for comments, after several unsuccessful telephone calls.
Only on Sunday a columnist in the New Nigerian Newspapers, had in his column, highlighted an alleged action of one of the Egyptian doctors contracted by the state government, saying, "On Monday, October 29, 2009, one of the Consultant Surgeons at one of the state-owned hospitals in the metropolis stormed the Government House with complaints about his condition of service, though he could not see the governor as he (Namadi) was preparing to leave for the stadium for the opening football match between Korea and Uruguay at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
"He said he had tendered his resignation and wants to leave the country. But many of the governor's close aides said Namadi had done all he could to ensure the best of working conditions for the surgeon and some medical doctors who spoke with this writer confirmed it.
They put the blame at the door steps of some individuals".
