He was killed by highway robbers last October 5 on the Ngaoundere-Garoua road.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o last October 30, presided at the funeral service of fallen Lieutenant Komba Mangan David killed by highway robbers, commonly called "coupe des routes" on the Ngaoundere-Garoua road. Komba Mangan who was raised posthumously to the rank of Lieutenant by decree of the Head of State, was part of a medical team that left Yaounde on October 4 bound for the northern regions of the country to carry out medical fitness tests on candidates seeking to sit for the recruitment examinations into the military as sub-officers. The attack of the medical team around 4:30 p.m. on October 5 resulted in the death of Komba Mangan.

At the funeral service at the Yaounde Military Headquarters Brigade on Friday, the Director of the Department of Military Health, Colonel Munongo Sona Francis in an eulogy, described Komba Mangan as a humble soldier who respected military ethics. Born on 10 March 1967 in Ndotto Kwack Kwack, Littoral Region, he joined the defence forces on December 18, 1985. He later on went to the Nursing Training School and was finally posted to the Department of Military Health. The fallen soldier was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on July 1, 2008. Before the cold hands of death snatched away Komba Mangan, he had worked for 23 years, 10 months and 13 days in the Cameroonian defence forces.
