Major roads are currently being adorned with attractive lights.
As 2009 end-of-year festivities draw nearer, the Yaounde City Council is already on with activities that will not only accompany the population in celebrating but will also add to the beauty of celebration. One of such moves is the decoration of major roads and junctions in the capital city with attractive lights of multiple colours. Philippe Ndzana, Director of Technical Services at the Yaounde Council says the embellishment of the town, which has already begun, is expected to be over on December 1.
Moving along the road that passes through Mvog-Mbi junction to the Central Post Office and the 20th May Boulevard, to other areas in town, one can see some of the colourful lights already twined along electricity poles and monuments found along the areas. The monument in front of the main office of the National Social Insurance Fund has already been decorated with attractive bulbs. Electricity poles along the 20th May Boulevard have been ornamented with attractive bulbs. For the first time, the Vogt monument has been adorned with eye-catching lights.
To render end-of-year festivities more cheerful and to give the town of Yaounde a beautiful and attractive touch, Philippe Ndzana says measures have been taken to increase the areas which will be lighted to crown end-of-year feasting. That is why, for the first time, the Charles Atangana monument, the Awae junction at the Mvog-Mbi neighbourhood, the Texaco junction at the Omnipsort neighbourhood and the Bois Sainte Anastasie gardens will be decorated to add extra colour and lighting to the feasting. It is also noted that all the roads leading to the Central Post Office, the 20th May Boulevard and the monument around the Prime Minister's Office will be decorated with captivating lights.
Plans are also underway by the Yaounde City Council to place two giant Christmas trees in front of the esplanade of the City Council and the cathedral. Besides reinforcing the hygiene and sanitation measures of the town, increasing the public lighting of streets, the Yaounde City Council will also contribute in organising Ya-Fe in a bid to add pageantry to the events.
