If you say plantains are not the most coveted of food items these days (especially in the southern parts of Cameroon); then you've got it wrong.
A sizeable bunch can't cost less than CFA 2,000 francs. And as wholesalers from other CEMAC countries flood into our local markets, our economists tell us demand outweighs supply. Simply put, those involved in plantain farming are therefore in lucrative business.
Ha... far from it. Stealing in villages like Tole, Sasse, Small Soppo and other areas in Fako Division; discourages many to take the initiative. Hardly can you find mature plantains on sale as those who don't want to labour, make hay on others sweat. So what solution? Name initials or painting plantains is thus in vogue to keep thieves at bay. There's relative success in this initiative. It will therefore not be surprising if we soon have identification name tags on cocoyams, cassava, pepper, okro; and you name the rest.
