Gaborone — The Real Estate Institute of Botswana (REIB) elected Outule Bale as the new Chairman of its council during its annual general meeting that was held at the University of Botswana (UB) recently.
Oarabile Zhikhwa was elected Vice Chairman, Donald Mengwe is the new Secretary, while Obert Rwatipedza is the Treasurer. Other members of the committee are Marilyn Mosha-Kenosi, Keithusitse Ookeditse, Kenneth Chikerema and Jane Kitheka.
In his acceptance speech, Outule thanked the REIB members for putting their trust in him and the rest of the newly elected council.
"We come into service with the theme having already been pronounced by the highest office in the land that each one of us must deliver to those we serve," he said.
Outule referred the challenges that the council is facing. "First, we need to work hard to protect our profession," he said. "With the hope that the government will shed off some of its responsibilities in the management of its estate, participation of our members should be ensured."
To that end, continuous engagement and contact with the relevant ministers and other stakeholders will be crucial, Outule said. The tendency of individual REIB members to privately negotiate with stakeholders will not help their cause as an institute. "Ours should be a collective effort so as to ensure equity amongst members," he said.
Outule emphasised the need for the organisation to reach out to its members, both young and old. "The younger members, if engaged appropriately, can become REIB soldiers on the ground as we strive for awareness and continued recognition in the society we serve," he said.
The energy the young possess should be used in REIB's social responsibility activities and public awareness campaigns, while the older members should provide wisdom and guidance in more difficult circumstances.
Outule said the AGM has emphasised the need for more interaction and contact among REIB membership on pertinent industry issues. "This council therefore endeavours to host burning platforms on a regular basis where issues will be discussed and solutions found."It was also upon REIB to ensure that the recently promulgated regulations are complied with at all times in the interest of the profession and the industry at large.
Outule told REIB members that the new council would need their entire support. He said over the next year they would make calls to members to participate and assist the council in various activities. "Our plea is for members to respond effectively and diligently when called upon, he said. "As a new council, we promise to deliver in all areas of expectation."
