Abuja — It was an evening of celebration as awards were conferred on eminent Nigerians who have excelled in their chosen endeavours at the 3rd Abuja Merit Awards ceremony held recently.

The event, which celebrated hardwork and dedication, saw well-deserving individuals, institutions and organisations as a way of recognising professionalism.

The Best Performing Legislator Award went to Honourable Philip Aduda, representing AMAC/Bwari federal constituency for his contribution to the development of the people, while The Most People -oriented Governor went to Governor Babangida Muazu Aliyu of Niger State. Other awards went to Denis Hotel as the Best Hotel In Abuja while AIT won the Best Socially Responsible TV Network in that category, with the Best TV Presenter going to Ayinde Soaga of NTA, among many others.

While talking to newsmen at the event, Honourable Philip Aduda emphasised the importance for one to do what he or she has been entrusted to do.

"Ensuring that we alleviate the problems of our people is paramount and that is what shows quality leadership - identifying what their needs are and providing for them."

He said he was encouraged by the fact that he and other hard-working Nigerians have been recognised for their contributions although there are many challenges. He also enjoined the people of his constituency and Nigerians as a whole to continue to be law abiding citizens and be their brothers' keepers.
