Abuja — The executive secretary of Education Trust Fund (ETF), Prof. Mohammed Yakubu, yesterday in Abuja said that N60.66 million has been allocated to each college of education in Nigeria.
Prof. Mohammed Yakubu made this known during the 2009 ETF Annual Strategic Planning Workshop for federal and state colleges of education held at the National Commission for Colleges of Education, Abuja.
He explained that the effort of ETF was to ensure improved performance and greater impact in the education sector and the national economy towards the realisation of the president is 7-point agenda and vision 20:2020, adding that ETF intervention granted facility to its beneficiaries mainly in the areas of projects, research, library development, staff training and development, book development and publication of journals.
The ETF boss said that the federal government had urged the ETF to rise to the the challenge of implementation of its intervention programmes, saying that the success of the ETF projects/programmes depend on the proper conceptualisation, wide range consultation and implementation based on full compliance with due process.
He stated that the colleges of education stood out on the issues of unaccessed fund, adding that over 1,200 lecturers had been sponsored for different programmes overseas, saying 'to whom much is given, much is expected."
Prof. Yakubu explained that it is expected that before you access the allocation, you must fill and return the strategic planning form.
According to him, the Board of Trustees has directed that henceforth, the budget of the agency should be released at the first quarter of every year, adding that there are 62 colleges of education in the country.
Earlier, the chairman, Board of Trustees of the Education Trust Fund, Dr. Musa Babayo said that the fund had been discharging its obligations to beneficiaries consistently over the years. Some of the beneficiaries have not been fully accessing the annual allocations for the purpose of rehabilitation, restoration and consolidation of educational infrastructure and facilities and other learning resources.
He, therefore, urged the participants to take the business of the meeting seriously in order to achieve the desired goals.
