Liberia: Amb. Greenfield Extols Liberians For their Way of Worship, Visits UPC Church

The United States Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Linda Thomas Greenfield has extolled the people of Liberia saying that she is delighted about how they are happily worshiping God despite the many challenges they faced. She made the observation on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at the United Pentecostal Church in Sinkor (UPC) when she along with four other Americans visited the church in furtherance of people to people to diplomacy.

The Sinkor United Pentecostal Church located in Sinkor opposite Vamoma House is one of the largest Pentecostal churches in Monrovia that is playing host to officials of government and other dignitaries. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is a regular visitor to the UPC.

During the visit, the US Ambassador, the first black female American to occupy the job thanked the Senior Pastor of the Church, Rev. Stephen Benda and promised to always visit the church. In response, Rev. Benda thanked the US Ambassador and others for their visit and prays that god will continue to bless and guide them as they continue to administer the affairs of the United States in Liberia.

In a related development, the son of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Robert Sirleaf and two British Nationals along with 25 Deaf Students also visited the church on Sunday November 1, 2009. The deaf students who are sponsored in various Deaf Schools in Liberia by Mr. Robert Sirleaf sang a beautiful song appeared happy at the worship service.

In his welcome statement, the Pastor of the Sinkor United Pentecostal Church, Rev. Dr. Stephen Benda thanked Mr. Sirleaf and encouraged them for their visit. Dr. Benda said the rebuilding of Liberia is the cardinal responsibility of every Liberians despite social or religious connections, noting that to build a strong nation; the manpower development must be strengthened.

He thanked Mr. Robert Sirleaf for his continuous assistance to Liberian students especially the less fortunate ones in the society and called on other well meaningful Liberians to assist in molding the minds of the future leaders of this country.
