Kigali — RAOUL Shungu has joined DRC's AS Vita club on a one-year contract.
Shungu, a former player of Bukavu Bilombe Union replaces Irish Chris O'Longhlin whose contract was not renewed at the end of last season.
On top of guiding the club to the Congo Cup championship and Entente provincial football league titles, the former Rayon Sport tactician also has a huge task of helping the Black Dolphins improve on this year's Africa's Confederations Cup display where they were ejected in the quarter-finals.
Shungu was sacked by the Blues on disciplinary grounds. He was blamed for the loss of Rwf15m on foreign players some of whom have since deserted the team.
Rayon also accused him of causing bad blood between the club and the local football body, Ferwafa.
Despite those misdeeds, Shungu is still rated by many as Rayon's most successful coach having won them four league titles (1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004) and one Cecafa Club championship (1998).
