Kigali — The Ministry of Infrastructure will access the services of two telecom companies in its study on the generation capacity of wind energy in the country.
The Ministry in June commissioned a study that will provide a roadmap for generation of wind energy in the country.
The study is part of several other off-grid initiatives that are being examined as government diversifies sources of energy for the country. The study is being undertaken by a Belgian firm, 3R, whose work kicked off in May.
Five sites were identified for the installation of wind measurement.
Equipment; Kayonza, Ngoma, Nyamagabe, Nyabihu and Gicumbi districts.
The wind measurement equipments will be installed with the support of MTN RWANDA and RWANDATEL SA antennas. A statement from the ministry says installation starts on November 4 and will be completed in four days.
The exercise of data collection will take one year and the results will give complete information
The study aims to look at the behavior of wind throughout the year and see if the wind strength is sufficient enough to generate energy.
