Kampala — A total of 225 Christians in Ankole diocese were commissioned as pillars, diocesan tribunal members and lay readers on Sunday. Others were ordained deacons and priests.
Speaking at the function at St. James Cathedral Ruharo, the Bishop Emeritus of South Rwenzori Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Zebedee Masereka, urged the Christians to transform society.
He said it was unfortunate that Uganda was ranked among the leading corrupt countries in the world, adding that corrupt officers came from corrupt families and societies.
Masereka said statistics showed that 80% of Ugandans were Christians, but added that only a few are known to God.
He cited a parish in the diocese, which he said had over 100 withchdoctors who claimed to be Christians.
The Bishop of Ankole Diocese, Dr. George Tibesigwa, told those commissioned and ordained to lead exemplary lives.
He added that Uganda can be transformed if its people are faithful, honest and have integrity in their day-to-day work.
Among those commissioned pillars were Ntungamo district LC5 chairman John Wycliffe Karazarwe, Prof. Gordon Wavamuno, Nathan Karema, Prof. Jonathan Baranga and Dr. Benon Mugerwa.
Kenneth Kakuru was commissioned the chairman of the diocese tribunal. Other members included the Rev. Gereshom Kamondo, Jane Kaliisa, George Byabashaija and Jolly Tumusiime.
