Abuja — Rep Ado Audu-Dogo, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Labour, has urged the military to ensure the survival of democracy, saying the institution would thrive better under democratic rule.
Audu-Dogo said in Basawa, near Zaria, that the military should strive to give democracy all the necessary support to flourish.The legislator, who represents Jema'a/Sanga Federal Constituency, said the military had a vital role to play in defending democracy.
The lawmaker commended the military for sticking to its constitutional role of defending the integrity of the country.He noted that on the global scene, the Nigerian Army was third in terms of its contribution to peace-keeping operations.
"The Nigerian Army has proved its worth in the area of peace-keeping worldwide. We are every where in Africa and beyond."The military is doing well, that is why we have been appropriating funds for it and we will continue to give it the necessary support," he said.
Commenting on democracy in Nigeria, Audu-Dogo said there were lots of positive changes in the country since the inception of civil rule in 1999, adding that more dividends of democracy were still coming.
He appealed to Nigerians to support the present administration to enable it to effectively deliver democratic dividends to the people. (NAN)
