Nigeria: Kwara to Partner Galaxy BB On Rural ICTs

4 November 2009

Abuja — Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki has expressed satisfaction with Information and Communications facilities at the Galaxy Backbone Hub. Speaking yesterday when he visited the Hub in Abuja, the governor said "what I have seen was very impressive with regard to the infrastructure and good platform for ICTs .

"They created a good platform, the only thing that need to be done is to see how we can utilises that platform in providing more efficiency in the different sectors", he said

According to him the state and the technicians in collaboration with the management of the Galaxy BB will meet to determine the next line of action in order to tap the benefits of the facilities.

"We require technology experts and those of us running the different sectors to see how we can collaborate to take the benefit to the required level". Having the technology is one thing, without the content, is just the technology available and that is my own concern but definitely it create a platform that allows access to entire population and that on its own has value to bring impact on development both social and economic".

According to Saraki "We are here to see what they have and to see whether we can support our drive to have a nationwide drive in making IT available to all. From what I saw that is possible".

He noted however that a lot needs to be done in IT penetration "the equipment will be available but on the other hand the users to utilise that facilities need to be train also".

"So to me this is only one aspect and there are other aspects that have to come together but we have to start somewhere to provide the foundation and what we are doing now is to see how we can bring everybody together".

Speaking, the Managing Director of the Galaxy BB, Gerald C. Ilukwe said the facilities are available for any stakeholder that is willing to partner with the company to deliver services for the development of ICT in the country.
