Nigeria:Late DTCA Staff's Wife Gets N1.6 Million Assurance Payment

Abuja — The atmosphere around the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) was yesterday tense as the wife of a dead staff of the establishment, Mr. Oseni Ibrahim Idris was presented with a cheque that bore the total amount of her husband's assurance policy.

Mr. Idris, who was a senior executive officer accounts, in DTCA, died in a motor accident in Abuja on March 28, 2009.

Late Idris wife, who came with a baby and two other relatives, received a cheque of N1.668 million from the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Bagudu M. Hirse.

Before the presentation, DTCA's Director-General, Engr. Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi informed the gathering that the entire establishment staff including the building are insured as directed by the minister.

He said when Idris died in March; DTCA followed up the payment process for his life assurance policy with an insurance broker and was impressed with their cooperation.

Engr. Bassi further disclosed that the assurance payments made was six times the basic salary of the dead staff.

Highlights of the event were a minute silence for the deceased as well as a posthumous presentation of a French Course Certificate to the deceased family.

The minister of state for Foreign Affairs commended DTCA for insuring its staff and ensuring that their premiums are paid, adding that other government establishments should emulate DTCA in ensuring that their staff workers are secured.
