Bulawayo — PREMIER Soccer League secretary-general Kennedy Ndebele has quit his post.

Ndebele, a bastion of hard work and one of the best administrators of the game in the country, cited personal and professional reasons.

However, it is understood that Ndebele was not happy with a number of key decisions that have been made by the league's management committee without consulting him.

Ndebele last week wrote to PSL chairman Tapiwa Matangaidze advising him of his decision to step down with immediate effect.

The former Highlanders chairman's name has been mentioned as a possible chief executive officer of the league in the proposed structure where the top-flight body will be led by a Board of Governors.

It was not clear yesterday whether Ndebele's resignation was part of the unfolding political drama in the top-flight league in an election season that has already started with a bang.

Ndebele said he would give full details of his resignation later.

He said Matangaidze was aware of problems bedevilling the PSL and added that football administration in the country was in a sorry state.

His resignation came a day after the country succesfully hosted the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup.

Ndebele was the Bulawayo Local Organising Committee general manager. "I will not disclose reasons at this stage. You can check with the chairman who I am sure is aware of the problems that the PSL is facing," said Ndebele. "All I can say is that our football urgently needs help and focussed leadership. My reasons for resignation will be disclosed after I have received a confirmation of my resignation from my chairman." Ndebele advised Matangaidze in a letter last Friday that he was quitting his post.

"I hereby tender my resignation as secretary-general of the Premier Soccer League with immediate effect. My reasons for resignation are both personal and professional," wrote Ndebele.

"Please be further advised I will remain available to offer advice to the clubs, the league and football in general, as and when required to do so. The Premier Soccer League documents will be delivered to the offices in Harare by 12 November 2009. I take this opportunity to thank you, the management committee, the PSL staff, PSL clubs, the Zifa board and Zifa assembly members for the support and co-operation in the past four years."
