Nigeria: Nasarawa Partners Carter Foundation On Polio

Lafia — Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has commended Nasarawa State government's efforts towards eradicating guinea worm.

Gowon said this in Lafia, while on a courtesy call to the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Doma.

He said the effort of the state government has drastically reduced infection of the disease in the country since it was discovered in the 1980s in many parts of the country.

Gowon said he was in the state on behalf of the Carter Foundation, a Non governmental Organisation, to commend thegovernor's effort.

Responding, Doma reiterated government's commitment to eradicate the disease, saying his administration is determined to put health care in the right perspective, He said the state government has established a primaryhealth centre agency to cater for the health challenge of people in the state, adding that the state government has embarked on rural/urban water scheme with the construction of 1500 boreholes across the state.
