3 November 2009

Muslim Aid, a relief and humanitarian organisation, on Sunday, donated food items and clothes to ten families in the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), who were affected by the recent floods, at a presentation ceremony held at the KMC ground.

The donated items included 10 bags of rice, cooking oil, milk, 10 aqua boxes containing clothes and hygiene materials for humanitarian and emergency relief. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Musa Mendy, the chairman of KMC Disaster Management Committee, said the gesture from Muslim Aid came as a result of an appeal made through the Office of the Vice President. The items, he said, will go a long way in helping these families. He thanked Muslim Aid for their intervention and called on other NGOs and philanthropists to emulate the organisation.

For his part, Ansumana Dibba, programme coordinator of Muslim Aid, said the donation is a follow up to the presentation of food items amongst others, to the vice president, who is the chairperson of the National Disaster Management Committee. The donated items, he went will in no small way help the beneficiaries as they lost most of their foods and properties.

Yusupha Sanyang, deputy mayor of KMC, described disaster as could be man-made or natural phenomenon. He urged people to be always prepared for its occurence. He cited his council's unrelenting efforts in supporting the affected victims and thanked Muslim Aid for the kind gesture.

Speaking on behalf of the benefiiaries, Abdou Badgie, a resident of Tallinding, thanked Muslim Aid for the timely support, noting that it will help them a lot. He further appealed for more assistance from philantrophists, NGOs and donors agencies.
