A conference on transfer of environmentally friendly technology from India took place last Monday.
With the issue of preserving our natural habitat of utmost concern to world leaders, companies are beginning to seek environmentally friendly ways of doing business. The Local Material Promotion Authority is not left out in this drive. A conference to chart the roadmap towards adopting an environmental friendly technology from India in the production of local material, took place last Monday, November 2, 2009 at the premises of the Authority in Yaounde.
The conference is animated by two experts, from Development Alternatives in India who had been in the country since November 26, to explore Cameroon's potentials in acquiring this new technology referred to as Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln. Their visit took them to seven of the ten region of Cameroon including South west, Littoral, West, North West, Centre and the Far North region.
According to the director of MIPROMALO, Uphie Chinje Melo, the advantage of the new system is that it makes use of industrial waste, coal or bio-fuels as source of energy to produce pellets or bricks as opposed to the currently system of using firewood which ways more on the environment. According to Dr Maity Soumen from India, Cameroon has a lot to learn from the Indian experience which has been distributed to most countries in Asia. More so, Cameroon has enormous potentials of bio-mass.
A prototype of the new machine will be constructed in MIPROMALO for onward dissemination to interested private investors. A five-year programme will also be designed not only on produce bricks according to certain norms but also taking into consideration the aspects of designing buildings and constructing them.
The partnership with the Indians began with a visit of the director to MIPROMALO to India where she saw the new technology and expressed the wish to have it transferred to Cameroon.
She therefore invited the Indians to Cameroon to explore ways to transferring this environmentally friendly technology to Cameroon. Participant at the conference included representatives of certain ministerial departments, the real estate company, SIC and other actors in the domain of construction.
