Tunisia: Strengthening of Govt-French Cooperation in Social Sector

Tunis — Mr. Ali Chaouch, Minister of Social Affairs, Solidarity and Tunisians Abroad received, on Monday in Tunis, Mr. Jean-Noel Guérini, Senator and chairman of the General Council of the French department of the Bouches-du- Rhône.

The talk reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the social area.

Mr. Ali Chaouch outlined the guidelines of President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali's future electoral program. He pointed out that democracy, pluralism and solidarity are at the forefront of his concerns, to strengthen national concord and as a constant foundation for the success and promotion of Tunisia to the rank of developed countries.

Mr. Jean-Noel Guérini expressed admiration for the Tunisian experience in the area of balanced development. He also expressed readiness of the regional council of Marseilles to consolidate cooperation with Tunisia in the social area.

France receives more than 82% of the total of Tunisian immigrants in European countries.

Tunisia adopts a social approach for the benefit of its citizens living abroad based on the implementation of bilateral agreements with host countries on labor and social security.

It is worth noting, that two agreements were signed in September between the National Agency for Employment and the Independent Employment Agency (ANETI) on the one hand and the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) on the other.
