Tunis — As part of the celebration of the 22nd anniversary of Change, a visit was recently organized for reporters to brief them on the construction of a new ferryboat which will carry passengers and cars between Sfax and the island of Kerkennah.
The vessel which has reached a 75% completion rate, will be operational late March 2010.
The construction of the ship was entrusted to the Tunisian Industrial and Naval Construction Company (INCC).The cost of this projects is estimated at 12 million 700 thousand dinars.
Shuttling between Sfax and Kerkennah, the ship will have a maximum capacity of 800 passengers and 150 vehicles.
The new ferryboat will improve transport conditions, as well as strengthening the economic and tourist activities on the island.
More than 30 presidential projects are currently underway in Kerkennah in the sectors of tourism (Green and tourist animation spaces), the environment (external infrastructure of the ecological tourist area of Sidi Fenkhal so as to protect areas threatened by coastal erosion), the fisheries sectors and the improvement of living conditions for an investment cost of 80 million dinars.
