4 November 2009
The opposition Liberty Party of Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine has put out a strong defense for its candidate in the November 10, 2009 by- election, Abraham Darius Dillon on his high school credentials.
Darius Dillon, now Chief of Office Staff in the office of Bong County Senior Senator Jewel Howard Taylor, a contestant on the ticket of the Liberty Party for the vacant seat in the Liberian senate created as the result of the demise of Hannah Brent, few months ago, has again sounded aloud about foul play in the November 19, 2009 Senatorial by-election, and that he is a proud 1989 graduate of the Well-Hair Stone High School in Monrovia.
Dillon has told the Liberian people and the voting populace that he is a 1989 graduate of the Well-Hair stone High School on Mechlin Street, an assertion some Liberians including supporters of the ruling Unity Party have questioned as false , and that he is not a graduate of the institution as claimed.
The Well Hair Stone administration has confirmed that Dillon is a 1989 product of the school, but it is now appearing that the Liberty Party is not taking the accusation made against its candidate lightly, and has put up a strong defense to counteract its opponents including the Unity Party.
The Party national chairman who is also the campaign team manager of Darius Dillon Israel Akinsayan yesterday called a press conference at the party headquarters on the Old Road where he informed journalists that the party candidate is a Bonified high school graduate and was more suitable for the task contrary to many that he was the least educated candidate in the race.
The Liberty Party national chairman said Darius Dillon is a product of the Well Hair Stone High School and used the medium to throw up an open challenge that anyone questioning the party candidate should contact the Well Hair Stone administration.
Speaking further, Mr. Akinsanyan angrily told team of journalists that the party candidate met all the necessary requirements to contest the election and has been duly certificated by the National Elections Commission(NEC), describing qualification as non issues.
He said, academic qualification should not be the cardinal issue in electing individuals to the National Legislature, but rather individuals commitment to duty and their love to the nation should be of paramount concern, something according to him, Darius Dillon was more situated for than the rest of the other candidates.
According to him, questioning the academic qualification of Darius Dillon is intended to shift the campaign and discourage Liberians from voting for the party candidate in the November 10, 2009 bye election, an act he described as laughable and immaterial to the entire process.
The Unity Party led government is entirely blessed with scores of degree holders from the United States of America and other parts of the world including president Sirleaf, but their performance was below standard, and that Liberians were severely suffering from their bad leadership.
"What have they done with their degrees and credentials for Liberia and Liberians since they resumed the mantle of authority over the country, and that the people of the country are dying every day from poverty and misrule?" the Liberty party national chairman averred.
He also told journalists that highly educated people in the Unity party were corrupt, he named the former minister of public works Lusinee Donzo, Harry Greaves, former managing director of the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Corporation (LPRC) and others who are highly educated, but have failed to wisely used their education, instead, he noted, they have plundered the country's funds in a manner and form that have not benefited the nation and its people.
"I wish all of the people that are not educated could vote for Darius Dillon in the by- election" he longed.
He indicated that the party candidate has spent over fifteen years working in government and vast experience in working with the National Legislature, and as such, has the credentials and moral authority to get at the Liberian Senate. Speaking on the ongoing campaign for the bye election, the Liberty Party national chairman indicated that the party has observed lots of mal- practices according to him, has the propensity for the ruling party to cheat.
Mr. Akinsanyan further disclosed that the ruling Unity Party are buying voters' registration cards from voters and at the same time, they are taking down voters series numbers from voters' registration cards, something added, is complete corrupt.
The Liberty Party executive said the entire voters' registration process is flawed and that the National Elections Commission decision to take old photos to replace lost voters registration cards was not cleared, and that the NEC intentionally did that to cheat for the Unity Party.
He disclosed that the party has officially complained to the NEC, but the Commission was paying deaf ear to its complaints. Mr. Akinsanyan presented a copy book to journalists that he said his partisans and supporters seized from the field from people he referred to as foot soldiers of the Unity Party containing names of registration, voters, and series numbers.
The Liberty Party national chairman indicated that the National Election Commission the 2005 registration voters role before the conduct of the bye elections.
