Tunisia: Kasserine's Civil Society Expresses Gratitude for Presidential Care for Women

2 November 2009

Tunis — Participants in the conference organised in Kasserine, on Sunday, on "Tunisian Women, Symbol of Authenticity and Emblem of Modernity. Family as Foundation of Social Cohesion," extended their congratulations to President Zine el Abidine Ben Ali for his re-election, with an overwhelming popular majority, to the Presidency of the Republic, which eloquently evidences Tunisians' attachment to his person as a symbol of Tunisia's sovereignty.

In a message sent to the Head of State, components of civil society in the Kasserine Governorate express their satisfaction at the high degree of maturity which marked the October 25, 2009 elections and made of it a very advanced stage on the path of the pluralistic democratic edification in Tunisia.

Authors of the message also praise the privileged position lent to human resources in President Ben Ali's development policy, as well as his constant keenness to consecrate the principle of equitable distribution of the development fruits among all categories and all regions. In this connection, they voice gratitude for the high interest granted by the Head of State to women by raising their presence in decision-making positions to the level of 35%, at least, by the year 2014.

They underline, in this message, their repudiation of the failed attempts made by a minority that lost its patriotism to cast doubts on Tunisia's successes. They reassert, in this context, their total readiness to contribute in the materialisation of ambitious targets set by President Ben Ali's new electoral programme, to carry on successful progress on the path of development and growth.
