Gambia: Macassa Clubs Leeds United in League Cup

Macassa leaped through to the nawettan league semi finals with a comprehensive 2-1 lead over Leeds United, thanks to goal from Kebba Kujabi and Dawda Secka in either of the halves.

Kebba opened the scores in the first-half with a well laid ball from Pa Badjie that initially boomeranged on one of United's defenders, giving him the simplest of chance to tapped to the net in the 36th minute.

A good fine footwork from Omar Jassey alias Waterman was well delivered by forward and partner Malick Njie but Leeds goalkeeper dealt well with it.

United's Yankuba Sonko twice came to scoring but he was intercepted on both occasions.

After series of failed try outs to goal, United's Amadou Baldeh broke the jinx to level the scores just two-minutes to end of the first-half when he beat the defenders on race into the box before beautifully coaxing shot stopper Blaise Lama to unleash a tap to the net.

But Macassa are not to easily give in, coming on an all out assault from re-start with Omar Jassey posing a constant threat to Leeds United, and in one occasion after he was fed with a long ball in the flanks, Jassey just stylishly joggled on the ball lobbing it over to the head of Leed's advancing Assan Njie again beating pass two others at a go only to blast it out wide.

In a moment that many tipped a draw as an outcome to this match, Macassa's substitute Dawda Secka made the difference that unarguably turned out as the winner.

Ousman Saho's slotted free-kick initially rattled on the standing post and it found Secka unmarked as he curled an unstoppable header leaving the opposing goalkeeper well stretched. Macassa are to slug it out in contention with title holders Rangers to the semis, while Ball Conge locks horns with surprise package Eden Boarder on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
