Kampala — Thousands of soccer fans lined up along streets to have a view of the Fifa World Cup trophy on its first appearance in DR Congo and Congo Brazzaville over the weekend.
In both countries, fans staged traditional performances and danced before the trophy was displayed for public viewing.
To date, the trophy, on a Coca-Cola-sponsored tour, has been to 27countries. They include Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Cape Verde, Mali, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Guinea and Ghana among others after it begun its 70-day tour in Egypt on September 21.
The trophy arrives in Kampala on November 14 and will be displayed to the public a day later at Lugogo Cricket oval. Tickets to the show are free of charge.
The trophy was in Angola yesterday and will be in Namibia today.
