Health officials say the feared influenza A HINI influenza commonly known as swine flu that struck Ndejje Secondary School in Luweero District early last month is under control.

The school has now been declared free of the disease.

Dr. Joseph Okware, the district's director of health services, said the new status came after the expiry of the 14-day incubation period when no reports of new cases were recorded and negative laboratory results of samples taken from suspected cases.

"I can confirm to the public that Ndejje S.S is now free of swine flu although we shall keep monitoring the situation up to the end of the term when the students break off for holidays," Dr Okware said on Monday.

Ten students in the school tested positive to the virus in October. The disease ravaged several schools in the country.
