Kenya: Arrest Chaos Suspects, Lobby Says

Nairobi — A lobby group has asked the International Criminal Court prosecutor to arrest those responsible for the post election violence.

The Kenyans for Justice for Peace and Development also called for prosecution of the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya officials and Chief Justice Evan Gicheru whom they accused of hurriedly swearing in President Kibaki.

According to political activist Okoiti Omtatah, the the two parties should also be held responsible for plunging the country into chaos.

He said those who were tampered with election results after Kenyans voted peacefully should be prosecuted while those who swore in Kibaki as president, to irregularly legalise the contested results must all face the law.

"If justice will be done by Mr Ocampo, the disbanded team that headed ECK and the Chief Justice should also be held accountable" he said

"They must all have their feet held on fire."

Speaking to journalists at the Kenya National Theatre, the group's national convener Mr Agostinoh Neto demanded the President, the PM and the Cabinet to immediately put in place an independent and impartial mechanism running parallel to the ICC process to hold to account people for their mayhem so that justice is done to all players.

"They (Kibaki and Raila) should stop deceiving Kenyans that they are on 'top of things' while on the other hand nothing is being done in relation to tackling the issue of post election violence" said Mr Neto.

The lobby said to achieve a true reconciliation, the country must hold criminally liable both those who frustrated a fair electoral process and stole the elections, and those who masterminded and executed mayhem.

"In proceeding this way, we will strike a body blow against the culture of impunity and give Kenyans a sense of equity before the law," he added.
