The Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) secretary general Thato Kwerepe has said that being new in the post does not mean he will not execute his duties.
He told the media yesterday that he is ready for the job and he will depend on the support of those who held the post before, for guidance.
He said he should not be expected to deviate from the normal functions of a secretary general.
"I am not coming with a new job description. I would be depending on the likes of Jacob Nkate, Daniel Kwelagobe and Gomolemo Motswaledi who held this position before to help me. The fact that they are no longer holding this position does not mean that they would desert me," he said.
Kwerepe took over the post after Motswaledi was suspended by the BDP for five years. He was introduced to the media yesterday in Tlokweng. The former secondary school head has said he is an experienced leader who once served as Ngami constituency BDP deputy chairman for a year.
Before he succeeded Motswaledi, has been an additional member of the BDP central committee. Though he has been previously associated with Barata-Phathi, he has denied that he is involved in factions. "I am not a faction secretary general. I am a secretary general of the BDP. That is it," he said.
Kwerepe has been nominated as a councillor in the North West District Council. He contested the BDP primaries for Ngami constituency but lost to former cabinet minister, Nkate.
