Abuja — The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, has tasked the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to pay more attention to civic education in Nigeria, stressing that it was the only way the country could regain its fast eroding value system.

The Emir, who made this call at a workshop organised by NOA for Kano State teachers, implored the agency to not only emphasize civic education in schools, but to also extend the campaign to all strata of the Nigerian society.

He decried the level of moral decadence among youths which he blamed on the absence of an effective value propagation mechanism and called upon parents and teachers to be more proactive in the area of civic education.

In reaction, Director-General of the NOA, Alhaji Idi Faruk, described the implementation and teaching of civic education as a collective responsibility and further tasked the Federal Government to provide more textbooks on the subject for onward distribution to students, adding that it would help towards encouraging schools in the country to commence teaching of the subject in earnest.

He maintained that education remained the most veritable tool for achieving the desirable social change that could guarantee growth and development in the country.
