Harare — Following his recent comeback on the live show circuit on the local scene, Oliver Mtukudzi, will next month head to Manicaland where he is expected to stage a one-off show in the province.
The show slated for December 5 will take place at Chapter One Leisure Centre in Mutare.
The joint owner Tendai Chitova said the show would certainly ignite the reveling mood in the city that for a long time had been starved of good quality entertainment.
"Tuku's fans are indeed prepared for a big show and I am happy to say that we have started making adequate preparations for the man's homecoming to the province," he said.
There is no doubt that Tuku's comeback especially to the province long starved of entertainment is certainly going to be one of the major events to hit the city.
Following the failure by rumba musician General Defao to hold a show some few months ago in Mutare, music fans in the border town must have cursed themselves for being away from the capital where everything seem to be happening. However this time, it looks like they are certainly going to rub away past disappointments and just have a good time.
With 57 albums to his name, Tuku last month embarked on a countrywide tour, to reconnect with his fans following his decision last year to minimise public shows.
Tuku fans in Harare, Bulawayo and Kwekwe were recently treated to superb shows from the man himself, although a poor PA system somehow marred the show in the capital. Although the delivery was good coupled by high energy on stage, the show lacked the wow factor, as the sound system was not up to scratch.
Only last week the 57-year-old musician was conferred with an honorary Masters of Arts degree from the Women University in Africa for his immense contribution to the arts fraternity in an illustrious career spanning over three decades. The achievements comes barely a month after Tuku celebrated his 57th birthday in grand style at his Pakare Paye Arts centre in Norton. He becomes the second musician to receive the award from the same institute of higher learning that honoured Dorothy "Aunt Dot" Masuka.
