Zimbabwe: Pair Stage-Manages Robbery, Court Told

Harare — Two NMB Bank security personnel have been dragged to court for allegedly stage-managing the robbery of US$150 000 and R150 000 they were transporting from Mutare to Harare.

Shepherd Hector Goto (55) of Hangaiwa Close in Ruwa and Porment Nkala (38) of Masotsha Ndlovu Way in Parktown were on Tuesday denied bail by a Marondera magistrate.

Goto and Nkala were police officers who held the ranks of Inspector and Sergeant respectively before joining NMB Bank. The State, led by Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa, said Goto -- a senior security manager -- and his deputy Nkala collected cash from their Mutare branch and were supposed to transport it to Harare.

According to the bank's regulations, the two were not supposed to stop anywhere along the way from Mutare until they reached the central cash deposit in Harare.
