Zimbabwe: Algerian Envoy Hails Inclusive Govt

Harare — OUTGOING Algerian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Ali Mokrani commended the inclusive Government saying it was demonstration that African countries are capable of resolving their disputes peacefully.

Speaking at a combined anniversary of the Algeria's National Day and his farewell reception held at his residence yesterday, Mr Mokrani said African countries should work together with the rest of the world in ensuring peace.

"Africans can resolve their disputes peacefully. I send a positive message towards the inclusive government of Zimbabwe calling for the support of the African community in economic building," he said.

Mr Mokrani commended the bilateral relationship between Algeria and Zimbabwe.

"In spirit of solidarity and contribution to the capacity of building, sharing knowledge and strengthening of human relations, Algeria has offered 249 scholarships to Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2009," he said.

He paid tribute to the Government for its continued support during his stay in Zimbabwe.

Mr Mokrani commended the sons and daughters who sacrificed their lives for Algeria's freedom.

"We celebrate our 55th anniversary of the National Day in commemoration of the 1st November 1954 date of the launch of the armed struggle that culminated on 5th July 1962 independence," said Mr Mokrani.

He said among his successes during the tour of duty in Zimbabwe was the resumption of the Joint Commission between Zimbabwe and Algeria while the scholarship programme his government had offered to Zimbabwe benefited more than 249 students.

Mr Mokrani said that although he was leaving Zimbabwe he would continuously visit the many tourist resorts in the country as he had done during his tenure of office.

He has been Algeria's ambassador to Zimbabwe since 2005.

Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Moses Mzila-Ndhlovu, other diplomats from various countries and high-ranking Government officials attended the ceremony.
